I play classical guitar. I have been playing a little over a year now. A little tip I have is sometimes when I am trying different strings. I don't want to waste strings but I also don't want to wait several months to use up the strings. My solution is use the strings a while, then try the next set. Keep the sets you take off that still have a bit left in them. That way if a string breaks and you don't have more, or can't wait for all new strings to settle, you can use the slightly used string. It will settle quicker and won't sound so much different.
